The Top Issues for Voters

I mentioned in yesterday's post that many analysts expect the Republicans to take control of the House of Representatives and perhaps the Senate after next week's elections.

One reason why they expect this was explained by NBC's chief political analyst and number cruncher, Steve Kornacki.

On Monday, Kornacki pointed out that Republicans have a "massive advantage" going into next week's election. He based his analysis on an October 31st Gallup poll which assessed which issues voters considered most important and which party they thought better able to address those issues.

As can be seen in the following image the GOP led on four of the five issues and on three of them their lead was in the double digits.
According to Gallup the economy topped the list of extremely important issues, with 49% considering the issue “extremely important,” followed by abortion at 42%, crime at 40%, gun policy at 38% and immigration at 37%.

Kornacki concluded that, “...when you look at this issue set, you look at how these voters are breaking along these issues, you see what looks like a significant Republican advantage."

If the vote on Tuesday reflects these priorities there'll be a much different Congress come January 2023 than there was last January.
